Looking to lift your spirits and bring joy into your soul? Try taking a bath with quartz crystals. Yup, I mean getting in a tub of hot water with rocks. But not just any rocks: crystals. And not just any crystals, but specifically quartz crystals.
“Why the heck would I want to do that?” you ask. Quartz crystals can add beauty to your bath, but they are also energetically soothing to the mind, body, and spirit.
Unlike other rocks, unlike even other crystals, quartz
crystals have the ability to conduct energy. That’s because quartz crystals are piezoelectric, meaning that they expand and contract when an energy current is passed through them. You’re probably using a quartz right now in your laptop or cellphone. In fact, during World War II, the US Government actually used to stockpile quartz for use in radio equipment. Now we can use quartz for peaceful purposes, like healing ourselves.
A quartz crystal bath allows you to infuse the higher vibrational frequencies of the quartz into your body for the purposes of healing, higher awareness, grounding, or meditation. All matter emits electromagnetic frequencies: people, animals, plants, and rocks, including quartz crystals. These frequencies travel like electricity, and bathwater is an excellent conductor. Quartz crystals are special because they can be used as a tool to focus attention and magnify energy.
So, if you’re going to take a bath with a crystal, make sure that it’s a quartz crystal, and remember that not all crystals are quartz. Scientists have something called the MOHS scale, where they rate the hardness of a crystal from 1 to 10. Talc is a 1. Diamond is a 10. Quartz is a 7. You only want to bathe with a crystal that is a 7 or harder, because otherwise the bathwater might damage or dissolve your crystal (and leach unknown substances into your bathwater).
“Quartz is the most powerful healing and energy amplifier on the planet,” says Judy Hall, the author of multiple books on crystal medicine.
Choose Your Quartz
There are a variety of quartz crystals that you can use in your bath, and for different purposes. For instance, Rose Quartz is good for healing a broken heart or for feeling more nurtured and protected. Amethyst
can help alleviate anxiety
and fear, improve focus, and enhance intuition. A Tiger’s Eye in your bath can increase vitality and give courage when facing big challenges.
So how do you go about taking a quartz crystal bath? First, choose your quartz. You can combine several different stones together if you wish. Give your quartz a quick rinse in the sink to rid it of any dust or energy that it might have picked up.
Run yourself a pleasantly hot bath. You might want to add Epsom salts, essential oils, or bubbles. Turn the lights down and play some soft instrumental music (quartz crystal “singing bowl” music is a great option). Pop the quartz in the bathtub with you. You can hold it in your hand, or leave it on the floor of the tub. (I like to put mine in my belly button sometimes.)

If your crystal has a point on one end, have the point facing away from you to help release and channel away any stress or pain that you have been feeling. If your quartz is small, and you’re worried that it might go down the drain, you can first place it in a small mesh bag before putting it in the water.
Try to stay in the bathtub for at least 30 minutes. Relax. Gently notice your breath. If you are having pleasant thoughts or sensations, just enjoy them. If you notice any physical discomfort or any negative thoughts or feelings, acknowledge them and let them be without trying to fix them or push them away. Gently return to focusing on your breath. Let the crystal and the hot water do their work.
Cleanse Your Quartz
After your quartz crystal bath, drain the water from the tub, give your quartz another quick rinse in the sink, and let it air dry. Be sure to drink plenty of water after your bath, to continue to let the formerly stuck energy move through and out of you.
Because quartz tends to pick up and hold energy, both positive and negative, you may want to occasionally cleanse your quartz. You can do this by soaking it in sea salt water, smudging it with sage smoke, or burying it overnight in the dirt of a houseplant or in a bowl of uncooked rice.
