The sand doesn’t change. It stays true to itself, and the ocean still comes back. / And kisses her over and over again.
Over and Over Again
The ocean holds the answers to all of the questions the land can never answer.
I ride the waves and feel the power of something beyond my control.
The ripples of the water pool at the sand’s curves and they gently kiss her over
Always coming back.
The sand doesn’t change. It stays true to itself, and the ocean still comes back.
And kisses her over and over again.
ALFA shared her insight with Spirituality & Health:
“This poem was born during a morning of self-reflection and sand-dollar scavenging. A mermaid needs her money while on dry land.
Sunrise on a beach is mesmerizing and I’ve never seen two exactly alike. On this morning, the newly washed up seashells lay scattered about and had not settled in. With each breathy
wave they rearranged, making the shores transform in the blink of an eye. People combing the sands came and went. The seagulls scouting for food ate and left.
Every time I looked around, the landscape had changed. The only consistency I saw was the way the ocean and the sand connected and accepted each other fully.
Over and over again. And for a moment I felt like I was eavesdropping on an intimate moment, and I felt overwhelmed with admiration and a bit of envy. Because I think we all long to be loved for our authentic selves. Over and over again.”
