Your Third Chakra: The Seat of Volition

The third chakra has a large and powerful role in manifestation.

Q. I have a lot of trouble getting things done. I’m fine at work and with others, easily accomplishing tasks and completing projects. It’s my own ideas, goals and projects that seem to fall short. If I can successfully complete projects for others, but not for myself, my energy must be misaligned. What can I do to get my energy on board with what I want to accomplish in my own life?

It’s frustrating when our energy and actions don’t line up behind our own goals, ideas and projects.

The third chakra, located at the notch of the ribs, is the seat of volition. It’s the energy center that funnels energy toward what you want to create and actualize.

To read this column, you need your third chakra to generate the energy to click on the article link, and to support your sixth chakra to unpack the content and digest what you’re reading.

When a third chakra effectively runs energy to complete tasks for others, but not for one’s self, it highlights a disconnection between the third and sixth chakras. In essence, the third chakra is easily aligned and connected to others tasks, but disengaged, offline when a self-directed task is desired or needed.

The sixth chakra generates the energy behind any decision, choice or idea to create something, whether it’s a mundane task or a large bronze sculpture. The sixth chakra resonates with the idea, flowing energy to articulate the form and frame the tasks for implementation. The sixth chakra holds the idea through to fruition, relying on the third chakra to generate the volition energy to manifest and actualize the idea into form.

Yet for anything to successfully manifest, the first chakra also plays an important role. Your third chakra is an actualizing and manifesting energy, and when in collaboration with your first chakra (the energy center that supports meeting your physical needs), you’re able to be on track and on task in your life because your body supports your initiative.

Implementation, manifestation or actualization occurs when the third and first chakra resonate with the idea formulated in the sixth chakra, generating the required energy to bring idea into form.

The third chakra has such a large and powerful role in manifestation, that when it’s offline, not much can successfully occur.

What to do?

One of my favorite processes for aligning and balancing the third chakra with the body’s ability to generate and actualize ideas is to leverage the partnership that exists with the first and sixth chakras.

Here’s a way of thinking about these logical, organic partnerships. The chakras are an integrated system, in communication with one another concurrently. Some of the chakras have logical flow states that ideally influence one another to manifest, create and actualize.

When creating partnerships between the third and sixth chakras, you’re inviting the two chakras to flow energy to bring ideas to form. By creating partnerships between the first and third chakra, you’re inviting the two chakras to collaborate and take action on your ideas.

To create your partnerships between the third and sixth, and the third and first chakras:

  • Bring your awareness to your third chakra at the notch of the ribs
  • Imagine that you can connect to the sixth chakra, in the center of the head, using a figure 8 of energy to integrate, balance, align and create congruence between the two chakras
  • See if you can sense the energy between the two chakras, and validate your ability to leverage your energy to manifest your beautiful ideas
  • Return your awareness to your third chakra
  • Imagine that you can connect to the energy of the first chakra, between the ovaries in women and at the base of the spine in men, using a figure 8 of energy to integrate, balance, align and create congruence between the two chakras
  • See if you can sense the energy flowing between the two chakras, and validate your ability to bring your body and your volition into alignment to manifest your ideas

When you’re working on manifesting your own ideas, choices and desires, you’ll want to create these partnerships on a regular basis. It’s important to flow your energy toward your own life. It won’t take away from the energy you flow toward your important tasks for others, such as those you complete at work. The partnerships will help you take congruent action on your ideas and choices to bring them into form.
