Who Will Benefit From Change In Eating Habits?

Super Opportunity in SuperFoods

Global eating habits have been changing for decades. I read and cooked from Diet for a Small Planet in the 1970’s. So change in eating and nutrition is not new. Recently, growing concern about global warming has been driving change faster. Then came Covid-19. Now change, and the opportunity that goes with it is front and center.

The food market presents a titanic opportunity for entrepreneurs bringing innovative products to market. While houses and health are important, food is a three-times-a-day proposition. And the food market is fragmented into may categories and distribution patterns, opening many doors through which innovation can enter.

Leading the way in healthy, natural, and sustainable eating are the influencers; fitness and yoga instructors, healthcare professionals, and health-seekers who dedicate themselves to improving their own, and their friends and family’s health and happiness. We all know a friend or acquaintance who is “the one” we ask for advice; professionals in the industry call it “peer modeling.” We call it influencer marketing.

What are influencers touting now? Superfoods.

Superfood is a growing product category that’s estimated to reach $5.61 billion by 2024. Typically, consumer interest in superfood spikes online around New Year’s holiday—when consumers are focused on being proactive with their health—and then tapers off around March.

Superfoods contain a variety of nutrients, such as antioxidants, which are thought to ward off cancer. They also have healthy fats, thought to prevent heart disease; fiber, thought to prevent diabetes and digestive problems; and phytochemicals — the chemicals in plants responsible for deep colors and smells, which can have numerous health benefits. Some, subcategories, (shall we all them super categories?) often searched for on Amazon are probiotics, blended vitamins and mineral supplements, sports nutrition, drink mixes, antioxidants, spirulina, chlorella, alfalfa and other herbal supplements.
