Baxter tried for a spot on the 2008 United States Olympic rowing team. Here is a video of their tryout at the April 26 National Selection Regatta, one of the first steps toward making the Olympic team. Competing in the coxless pairs category, Kiesling, 49, said he knew they were unlikely to beat the much younger competition. Twenty-eight years ago, Kiesling lost his chance to compete in the 1980 Moscow Games because of the United States-led boycott.
