E-courses
Peace of Mind
Led by Bertram W. Salzman
Bertram W. Salzman, author of the new book Being a Buddha on Broadway, led this six-week e-course, which ran from May 3, 2004 through June 7, 2004. After a successful career as an artist, Salzman became renowned in the world of educational films for children, winning an Academy Award for Angel and Big Joe. He has also made many documentary spiritual films, including Awaken to the Eternal: Teachings and Life of Nisargadatta Maharaj, Abide as the Self: Teachings and Life of Ramana Maharshi, and Open to the Infinite: An Evening with Ram Dass.
"The most sought-after treasure in the world even more than wealth and power is peace of mind," Salzman writes. "This state of peace is something that is naturally ours." So why do so many of us seek what is already ours? "People take the small, mechanical aspect of their mind to be the real mind" when it is "just a small part of the infinite space of the naturally peaceful mind."
Salzman has developed Attention Exercises that will help you resolve the problem of overactive thought and achieve a sense of peace and calm. The exercises will also help you move into the much greater space of pure awareness. The author writes about his own experiences with this process in the article "Scenes from an Awakening" in the March/April 2003 issue of Spirituality & Health print magazine.
The e-course consisted of one email sent every Monday containing an Attention Exercise to practice daily and a brief commentary on a lesson of the experience.
